BioData.pt | ELIXIR Portugal at the ELIXIR All Hands 2026

ELIXIR All Hands - Recap

The 12th ELIXIR All Hands Meeting brought the ELIXIR community together in Lyon, France, from 8 to 10 June, three days of workshops, discussions, and collaborations centred on reviewing achievements and shaping the future of the research infrastructure. BioData.pt | ELIXIR Portugal was present in full force, 13 portugueses representatives contributing with 5 presentations, 2 posters, and 3 round table discussions reflecting the breadth of the Portuguese node's engagement across the ecosystem.

The team's contributions spanned some of the most active areas of the ELIXIR Scientific Programme. Jorge Oliveira presented at a workshop on health data standards across Europe, addressing how nodes can align efforts around frameworks such as OMOP and GA4GH to make clinical data more interoperable and reusable. Sérgio Matos contributed to a workshop on AI model evaluation in the life sciences, exploring how ELIXIR can act as a gateway for open and transparent AI. Teresa Nogueira presented on building FAIR metadata standards for non-human pathogen genomic and phenotypic data as part of the BFSP Priority Area workshop. Luciana Peixoto introduced the Train-the-Trainer mentoring programme at the Training Platform Mini Symposium, and Pedro Barros presented the work of the E-PAN project at the BFSP community workshop. Ana Teresa Freitas participated in two workshops — one focused on connecting health data pan-Europe, and another introducing the concept of FEGA Affiliates, where she chaired a round table on the relationship between national nodes and affiliates.

The team also presented two posters, including one on building ELIXIR management capacity across nodes.

The ELIXIR All Hands 2026 was a strong moment for BioData.pt | ELIXIR Portugal, reaffirming the node's growing contribution to the infrastructure and the conversations that will shape its next phase.
